The London Olympic Games will be held from 27 July - 12 August 2012, and the Paralympic Games from 29 August - 09 September 2012. Scottish food and drink companies are being encouraged to act immediately to be part of this massive, unprecedented opportunity.
The scale of the opportunity is vast: 14 million meals will be served across 40 different locations, feeding everyone from the athletes and team officials to press, ticket holders and corporate sponsors. More than 232 tonnes of potatoes, 82 tonnes of seafood and 330 tonnes of fruit and veg will be used, to give just some examples.
Scottish businesses across all sectors, from manufacturing and construction to transport, accommodation and catering are being encouraged to get involved and win contracts to supply the Games.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is now inviting expressions of interest in providing Catering Services to London 2012 and Olympic venues (Tier 1).
Once the Tier 1 caterers have been appointed - likely to be towards the end of the year - the next stage of procurement will begin, and it is this opportunity that Scottish businesses need to be able to access to become a supplier to the Games.
Scottish food and drink companies are being encouraged to apply for the forthcoming contracts, which will be an unrivalled occasion to supply excellent quality products to a huge national and international audience.
But you need to take action now to be considered for these next stage contracts.
You can do this by registering and completing your business profile on the CompeteFor portal - www.competefor.com. Being Profiled means that you will be alerted to contracts as soon as they arise, can be matched for opportunities - and therefore in a better position to win business.
It is important to note that CompeteFor also advertises non-Olympic opportunities, and so this is a great opportunity to generate new business from other sources.
