First Milk, one of whose key partners is the Nestle chocolate crumb making factory in Girvan, Ayrshire, has set up a partnership with the company to share best practice and make the most efficient use of resources as part of the drive for sustainability.
First Milk's Farm Sustainability manager, Lee Truelove, explains: "Producers are increasingly aware of sustainability issues and how more efficient use of resources would not only be good for the environment but would also improve the bottom line. We've now got a group of 65 farmers within a 50-mile radius of the Girvan site signed up to the partnership.
"The producers have visited the site and we've run a workshop on the areas on which Nestle and ourselves want to focus such as water usage, our carbon footprint, manure management and fertiliser use."
