Scottish Companies Collaborate

Two finalists from the Scotland Food & and Drink Excellence Awards 2009 - Summer Harvest Oils and Caithness Smokehouse - have collaborated to produce two new Scottish delicacies.

Summer Harvest Oils, winner of the Soups, Preserves and Accompaniments and the Healthy Eating Awards, and Caithness Smokehouse, finalist in the Foodservice Product of the Year Award, have joined forces in the production of Smoked Mussels and Smoked Eggs.

Following the awards ceremony at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow, John Inglis, owner of Caithness Smokehouse, contacted Mark Bush, managing director of Summer Harvest Oils based at Madderty in Perthshire.

As a result of this exchange Caithness Smokehouse introduced Summer Harvest's Scottish Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil in the production of its Smoked Mussels and Smoked Caithness free-range eggs.

Summer Harvest Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is pressed using traditional techniques with no heat or chemicals, leaving a truly natural product of the highest quality.

The very low levels of saturated fats (only 6%) along with its high Omega 3 content make Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil one of the healthiest oils on the market.

John Inglis said: "We smoke the mussels and eggs over oak chips which are produced from the local malt whisky distillery along with various woods to offer a unique flavour.

"With the addition of Summer Harvest's rapeseed oil we now have two new products that are truly Scottish, additive free and, most importantly, delicious."

It was through Scotland Food & Drink that these two companies made contact. Scotland Food & Drink is the unique industry-led organisation with an aim to make Scotland internationally known as 'A Land of Food and Drink'.

Summer Harvest Oils and Caithness Smokehouse share a commitment in the production of quality, Scottish products and through Scotland Food & Drink have combined their expertise to produce two Scottish products of the highest quality.
