Competing and Collaborating
Working with your competitors might sound like the worst kind of commercial
sense. But sometimes it can be the exact opposite.
It can be sound business judgement to work together if there are good reasons to do so. For example, in the case of food transport in Scotland, it can be one of the best ways to reduce food miles, offer the best value to customers and open up new markets.
Bellshill-based Chilli Express set up a network with several English based transport companies to help it to offer a better, broader service to clients. Read their case study.
And, three companies, two in the Highlands and one in the central belt, have also developed collaborative arrangements where they feel it offers the best deal to customers and is also most cost-effective for them - yet they still compete against each other on other routes. Read their case study.
